Embassy closure: what’s next?
The Danish Embassy in Dar es Salaam is closing in 2024. Read more about what we will be doing in the next two years here.
Since the announcement of the closure of the Danish Embassy in Dar es Salaam in August 2021, the embassy’s staff has been hard at work to seek to ensure that we can leave in a responsible manner. An important part of this work are plans for new development commitments for 2022 and 2023, expected to total 200 M DKK (63,5 billion TZS). The plan emphasises sustainability and resilience in the work with our partners. We hope to leave behind strong partner organisations that can continue doing their important work when our partnership ends. Read more here.
Tanzania was the first African country, with which Denmark initiated a long-standing development partnership. Throughout the years, the relations between Denmark and Tanzania have been strong and amicable. Denmark was up until recently among the top 4-6 largest bilateral development partners in Tanzania.
Denmark and Tanzania’s strong relationship is valuable, and we work hard for its transformation into a new type of relationship, based on opportunities and cooperation through platforms outside bilateral development cooperation. We look forward to engaging with Tanzanian stakeholders – be it government, private sector or civil society – to define this future partnership. We have 60+ years of good results to build on and have no doubt that we will find good avenues to continue this close partnership.
