Consul retirement and permanent closure of the Danish Consulate in Arusha - An era comes to an end

Closure of the Danish Honorary Consulate in Arusha. An era comes to an end when long-term Honorary Consul, Mr Geert Lassen Holm, strikes the flag of the consulate for the last time after 34 years in service.

Consul Holm was first appointed Honorary Consul in May, 1989.

Undoubtedly, Arusha was then a hot spot for Danish development assistance and volunteers. Most Danes who have ever worked or lived in the Arusha area will know exactly who Consul Holm is. Since then, a steady stream of Danish tourists may also have crossed paths with the Consul in need for emergency passports or just friendly local help and advice. For those who know Consul Holm, always with much enthusiasm and an eye for getting things done.
The Consul has striked the Danish flag
Over the years Mr Holm has also become the longest serving of the remaining Consuls in Arusha and thereby he has also served as the Dean of the Honorary Consuls in Arusha.

Nevertheless, her Majesty the Queen has now relieved Mr Holm of his duties as Danish Consul in Arusha and the northern regions.

From the Embassy, we wish to convey our sincere appreciation of the Consul and his 34 years in service for Denmark.

An era comes to an end with the Consulate closure, however, we trust Consul Holm will still be roaming the streets of Arusha, either in retirement or as always on a mission.
