Ambassador's greeting for THRDC 10-year anniversary
Today Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) celebrates its 10-year anniversary! The THRDC defends those who dedicate their time, energy, and resources to defending human rights.
The ambassador gave her congratulations.
"Hi, I am Mette Nørgaard Dissing-Spandet, the ambassador of Denmark. At the Danish Embassy we are proud partners of THRDC.
In shifting political landscapes, the continued work for human rights and their defenders is essential.
Civil society actors must keep putting pressure on duty-bearers. This is crucial to any country. Denmark is proud to have been able to assist, also when times were tough.
Our support to THRDC through the Foundation for Civil Society helped you do your important work: protecting human rights defenders.
You work hard to ensure a safe working environment for those who fight for the rights of others. This is a constant battle.
I myself represent a Government that receives criticism left, right and centre. Sometimes justified, sometimes maybe not.
And make no mistake. Governments may not always appreciate the criticism. And may find it troublesome to have to answer to the criticism.
But governments always need it. Governments always, always need to be carefully scrutinised and held to account. It keeps us on our toes. And it helps us become the best version of ourselves, true to the people we are here to serve.
All of you at THRDC are doing exactly that!
I encourage you to keep fighting, keep working, and keep learning. I look forward to following your progress in years to come.
Hongera Sana on your 10 years of work for a better Tanzania for all.”
